Restorative Techniques’ ThermaTech adopted by Commonwealth War Graves Commission
The ThermaTech INOX has been chosen by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to clean its memorials to those who died in the two World Wars.
ThermaTech stone cleaning equipment from Restorative Techniques is being used all over the world by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) as its prefered system of cleaning gravestones and larger memorials.
CWGC has stone memorials commemorating 1.7million men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two World Wars at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries and territories.
Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sweden, UAE, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, India, Australia, USA and Canada are just some of the countries where the ThermaTech has now been used.
Of course, it is also widely used for stone cleaning and paint removal in the UK by many conservation and heritage companies, not least several of the cathedrals.
ThermaTech is a modular range of equipment producing superheated water at temperatures up to 150ºC for masonry cleaning and paint and coatings removal.
It is 110V, environmentally and user friendly and easy to transport and manoeuvre on site. It can be used by a single operator, or, for certain applications, by two operators simultaneously using one machine.
ThermaTech also comes in an INOX version, a diesel powered unit providing all the energy needed to run ThermaTech.
The latest development is an attachment that adds abrasive to the mixture. Superheated water will have limited success cleaning non-temperature responsive coatings (such as cements, lime based paints, carbon sulphation and lime effervescence). However, they will yield to the application of abrasive.
This abrasive attachment kit is specifically designed to connect to the ThermaTech gun and be used at temperatures of 100°C. The Ceramic and Stainless-Steel nozzle assembly provides a gentle diffuse mixture of water / steam, air and abrasive.
The abrasive pick-up straw is pushed into a moisture resistant container of abrasive media. The connecting tube between the abrasive bag and nozzle is 4m long and has an inline abrasive flow controller. A range of abrasives, each specifically for particular cleaning applications using this attachment, is supplied by Restorative Techniques.
